Proud To Be A Latter-Day Saint

Ever since Mitt Romney announced his candidacy for president, there has been a lot of extra attention on The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

It's so good that people are interested and curious.

There was a news special on the Church the other night that did not shed a favorable light on the Mormon church. As I was expressing my frustrations, my Dad was quick to point out that any attention can be good attention. That those who are supposed to dig deeper to find the real truth will and that even negative attention is a missionary tool.

I saw this photo on Facebook yesterday and it made me laugh out loud.

On the news special, they interviewed a disgruntled ex-Mormon who said she wished that the church wasn't so secretive. I had to laugh because we are more than willing to share with those who are willing to listen. It's interesting that the world doesn't see it that way.

Roller Derby

Another long-time dream of mine became a reality last weekend when I got to go to the

ROLLER DERBY!!

woohoo!

I have wanted to go for a while - like years, so I'm so excited it happened. Who knew that little old Spanish Fork had a roller derby?

The best part is that it takes place in an abandoned Food 4 Less building by the freeway.

So perfect.

Jordan, her BF David and I went. It was such a great time.

The officials do a uniform check before the 'bout' starts.

I think it's to check for weapons.

We didn't really know the rules, but figured it out with the help of our smart phones and the officials arm signals that were drawn out on posters on the wall.

It was such a great time.

Okay, this lady probably was my very favorite part of the night. She came in with no shoes. Her left foot was completely bare and she had a pink ankle sock on her right. There were so many holes in her cowboy hat, I don't know how it stayed on her head. I think her daughter was one of the derby girls and she was so supportive - with posters and loud cheers of encouragement. She was so awesome.

I think this guy was their mascot.

A zombie? Why not.

Their penalty box is called the Sin Bin.

So great.

She was my favorite derby girl. She  was super tough and got the job done. She wore leather briefs with what I can only guess was orange lacy panties underneath.

So classy.

She smelled so completely awful after the bout. Whew! She clearly played her hardest. I didn't really invite her to put her arm around me, but I guess it's okay that she did.

When we got back to my house, we watched Whip It which is a great roller derby movie.

After it was over and Jordan and David left, I was looking for my sewing kit because I had to make felt flowers before church the next morning. I couldn't find it for the life of me and was getting pretty frustrated. I came across an old wallet. Curious what my life was like when I used that wallet, I looked through the cards and papers that were left in it.

I pulled out a movie ticket and guess what movie it was from?!?!

Totally serious. Crazy, huh? Of all the 100's (1,000's?) of movies I have seen, it is so cool that I found that ticket stub that night.

A Bit Of Luck

I have wanted to see All American Rejects in concert for a long time.

So, when I heard they were coming in concert, I was pretty excited.

On my way home from work on Monday, I was listening to 97.1 and the DJ said he was giving away 2 tickets to the AAR show to the 10th caller.

Why not?

I called twice and it was busy. The 3rd time, it rang.

and rang and rang...

I knew from experience (remember Coldplay?!) that winning anything on the radio takes patience, so I decided I would let it ring 7 times. Once it had rang 7 times, I decided to wait for 11 rings (after all, I had time ---> I was stuck in traffic. Gotta love I-15) .

Well, after 10.5 rings, the DJ answered, "You're the correct caller! You win!"

Hooray!!

I'm pretty excited. I haven't been to a concert in a while.

mortgage = no extra fun.

Here's a little recording:

If only my good luck had come into play a couple of weeks ago.

I went to Idaho for a family thing - I have the best family! - and I bought 3 lottery tickets for me and 2 friends. Gambling definitely isn't my thing, but it was a fun one-time thing.

None of us won anything...big surprise!

I can't wait for the concert on Oct 23rd!

Basin Drive-In

The Drive-In in Mount Pleasant has quickly become my favorite summer-time activity.

It is so, so fun.

I highly recommend it.

Plus, I get to hang out with 2 of my favorite gals.

They're so great.

We saw the newest Batman.

Batman rises?

Batman Forever?

The Dark Knight Rises Forever?

Not sure, but I really like it. There's nothing wrong with watching Christian Bale for just shy of 3 hours. I've been in love with him since Newsies.

Don't tell Zac.

Here's the text convo that started the night:

We think we're pretty funny.

On My Way To Work...

If you look closely at the photo below, you will see that there is in fact a cat on the lady's dashboard. As I was sitting at the stoplight, I counted 3 cats and at least 2 children in her minivan. Nothing like driving with no distractions, right?

When the light turned green and she started going, the cat walked right in front of her and sat down. Directly in her line of vision.

I felt pretty safe.

Before you judge, I was completely stopped at a stoplight when I took this photo.

Pretty sure it wasn't a bird that tagged this guy's car.

Maybe it was a pterodactyl.

Truffula Trees

In honor of Zac's new movie - The Lorax - coming out, I had a little party at my house with some of my favorite short people.

I saw this photo online and thought, 'why not?' so I gave it a try.

I wouldn't say it was an epic fail, but it wasn't much of a success...

At least we had a good time though.

This reminds me of the funniest thing I've seen on Pinterest:

I laughed so hard I cried when I saw it.

Basically the story of my life...

A New Little Friend

I'm still trying to talk myself into liking to mow my lawn.

I'm not having much success.

I saw this little guy tonight while I was using the weed eater.

Here he is in action.

I screamed so loud, my neighbor asked if I was okay.

Not my finest moment.

(Sorry I sound so lame. My voice is so high because I'm still in panic mode).

Flowers

There has been a death in my flower bed.

(pay no attention to the weeds in the background)

I have replaced it with some awesome flowers.

I am working really hard so they don't meet the same fate.

(my lack of yard skills is getting pretty embarrassing!)
